The authors of Disco Elysium talked about the new quests and voice acting of The Final Cut – Igromania

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 next month. In an interview Push square screenwriter Justin Keenan shared the details of the new content, as well as talked about porting the game to the console.

The main problem we faced was a little more fundamental: How do you keep console players engaged when they have to read hundreds of thousands of words of text on TV screens? This was one of the main reasons for the decision to add full voiceovers to Final Cut.

At the same time, the pandemic did not affect the development process, because the team is already distributed around the world, but it affected the voice acting. Keenan notes that the game had three directors who worked with dozens of actors to voice over a million words.

As for the console port, working with the controller was straightforward. But the new version of the game will receive new animations, new and improved character portraits, new sound and lighting effects.

Quests of political vision became the heart of the new material. These are four mutually exclusive quests. They are associated with each of the four main ideological directions of the game. These quests (or some version of them) were planned for a long time, but, unfortunately, did not make it into the original release.

According to Keenan, these quests will not affect the main storyline, but will give players the opportunity to bring some ideological themes to a satisfying conclusion and explore what actually happens behind the political posturing that the protagonist sometimes enjoys doing.

I must also say that each of these quests is unique. They are as different from each other as they are from any other quest in Disco Elysium.

Some introduce you to new characters, some will have new items, others constantly change your user interface or some other part of the world.

In addition, Keenan noted that the team was overwhelmed by the reviews from critics and fans, as well as the fact that Disco Elysium has sold 1 million copies.

Such games should not be sold in millions of copies.

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in March, and will reach Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch this summer. All game owners will receive the update for free.
