“If Given the Opportunity” – PlatinumGames would like to bring Scalebound development to the end

PlatinumGames would like to return to Scalebound and complete the development of the game. About this in an interview with the publication Eurogamer Portugal said the head of the Japanese studio Atsushi Inaba. The problem is that all intellectual property rights belong to Microsoft. Therefore, developers can do nothing with Scalebound if the American corporation does not want it.

Microsoft has sponsored the development of Scalebound as an exclusive to the Xbox One. Then the game was also announced for the PC, but in 2017 it was suddenly decided to cancel it. The developers and the publisher never spoke in detail about the reasons for such a decision, indicating only that not all projects in production live to see the release, and this is common in the industry.

“Good question! But IP is 100% owned by Microsoft. We can’t do anything with this project without Microsoft. If this is possible, we would like to return to the development of Scalebound,” Inaba said.

Earlier this week, the studio announced a remaster of the action The Wonderful 101 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC, which came as a surprise to many, as the original game was sponsored by Nintendo. PlatinumGames employees told reporters that they themselves did not expect such generosity from the platform holder, but he allowed the authors to tackle the port for different systems on their own. The studio considers the incident “a unique exception to the rule”. Developers raise money for the publisher on Kickstarter.
