PlatinumGames Explains Why The Wonderful 101 Remaster Doesn’t Go On Xbox One

In September 2019, a few months before the official announcement of the remaster The Wonderful 101, Studio Platinum games she told reporters that she plans to release a game on Xbox one. However, when the embargo on the publication of materials was lifted, the console Microsoft among platforms for The Wonderful 101 Remastered not turned out. Xbox One hasn’t been added to the list of additional goals as part of the fundraising campaign on Kickstarter.

Explaining the situation in an interview on PAX East 2023, representatives of PlatinumGames explained that most of the funds raised on Kickstarter will go to the production of physical copies of the game, bonuses for investors and an additional game mode, and not to the porting itself, the work on which was performed earlier – the studio spent its money on this as well.

The original The Wonderful 101 was created for Wii U, and optimizing the engine for the Xbox One turned out to be a difficult and expensive procedure, explained the development manager Hideki Kamiya. Against this background, the studio decided to abandon the release of the project on the Xbox One.

In the future, perhaps the situation will change.

“This is a very expensive process, and we don’t have the opportunity to deal with it inside the studio. I don’t want to say that we will never release the game on the Xbox One. If everything goes together and we manage to get enough money, the release on the Xbox One may take place. But it’s just an expensive story. We really would like to release the game on the Xbox One, but for these reasons we could not do it. “

In the comments, many Xbox users call Camia’s words “a stupid excuse”, refusing to believe them, because on all other current platforms – from the weakest to the most powerful – a remaster comes out. They point out that the Xbox One cannot be so different from other systems so that such problems arise.

Some fans of Microsoft consoles believe that PlatinumGames is simply offended by the American platform holder because of the story with the cancellation Scalebound.

However, it is worth noting here that its next game, recently announced Project G.G. from the same Camia, PlatinumGames wants to release both on the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X.

Remaster The Wonderful 101 will debut in May 2023.
