Historic Decision: Sony Changed the Confirmation Button on a PlayStation 5 Controller in Japan – And It Can’t Change

According to the latest material portal Famitsu, Sony decided to change the X and O buttons in Japan to Playstation 5… Now the confirmation button will be X, while all previous generations of PlayStation used O for this action (for the Japanese, O is a symbol of confirmation or approval). Thus, the platform holder brings the Japanese button layout in line with the rest of the world.

Edition Itmedia, who spoke with Sony, adds that it will not be possible to reassign buttons on the PS5 in the console settings

According to Sony representatives, this unification will make life much easier for developers when working with the interface, and will also be less confusing for players when you need to press O to confirm in the console context menu, and in games you have to press X for the same action. However, the Japanese press writes that there was little confusion in Japan, and local gamers got used to the old format, which has not changed since 1994.

Players will now have to get used to the new approach.
