A-Life 2.0, a new engine, mod support and a lot of attention to the plot – fresh details of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

PR manager of the studio Gsc game world Zakhar Bocharov was a guest on the podcast “Not brought in”, during which he answered several questions from the hosts regarding the development S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

Since the game currently has a strict NDA with GSC and Microsoft (nondisclosure agreement), Bocharov left all the most interesting without comment, but still said something… The main thing is below.

  • Rumors about service elements are false and untrue, but there is nothing to say about multiplayer;
  • The studio is not currently working on any other versions other than the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. Microsoft went a long way towards the meeting and was really interested in the project;
  • GSC considered making the game in X-Ray, but the original engine turned out to be too outdated. As a result, the developers reviewed all the current engines on the market and settled on the Unreal Engine;
  • UE was chosen also due to the convenient implementation of mods. The modding community is the hardcore core of the game’s fans and the studio will try to add mod support to the PC version as early as possible, ideally at release. This is one of the development priorities. The possibility of adding mods to Xbox is also being explored
  • Discussing the bugs of the original trilogy, Bocharov noted that on the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be a much cleaner game in this regard.
  • Ray tracing support will be implemented on both PC and Xbox Series X and even Xbox Series S;
  • The life simulation system A-Life has become “more meticulous and detailed”. All interactions between factions, monsters, NPCs will occur even when the player does not see it. Using the example of a fight between wild boars, Bacharov explained that often players will not see the event itself, but its consequences.

“A-Life 2.0 is a different level of performance. As we get closer to release, we will give it enough attention. It’s a wildly cool system that works great, and there will be something to show.”

  • The open world will offer a “non-linear storyline with a huge number of branches and different endings.” It is promised that the Zone will match the scale of history. Singleplayer is the main focus of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.

“First and foremost, this is a game that I would like to be bought and replayed for the sake of history.”

The release date of the project is still not called.
