Media: Mass Effect 5 could be transferred from Frostbite to Unreal Engine 5

Electronic Arts and BioWare are considering porting a new Mass effect on Unreal Engine 5… This is reported by GamesBeat with reference to the studio’s job listings and its own sources.

At present BioWare looking for a CTO for the next Mass Effect title with experience in Unreal Engine 4 or higher. According to the publication, this is due to the fact that the studio could potentially abandon the internal EA engine in favor of UE5

The original Mass Effect trilogy was created on the Unreal Engine 3, but starting with Dragon Age: Inquisition, the studio switched to the engine Frostbite from DICE, which was originally sharpened for the shooters of the Battlefield line.

As the journalist explained Jeff GrubbBy the time full-scale development of the game starts, Frostbite may be outdated, so in order to maintain technical parity with the industry, the studio is now exploring all kinds of advanced graphics and technical technologies that it could apply in Mass Effect 5. This also applies to the Epic Games engine. even if the project ends up staying on Frostbite.

BioWare is currently focused on developing Dragon age 4… According to Grubb, the game is still scheduled for release in 2023, which means that Mass effect 5 we most likely won’t see it until at least 2025.
