The creator of The Last of Us Neil Drackmann ambiguously reacted to allegations of over-processing – opinions were divided

The last couple of days in the network have been heated debate and heated discussions about the studio Naughty dog and the difficult process of creating a highly anticipated adventure game The Last of Us: Part II. The catalyst for all this has become journalistic investigation Jason Schreyer, in which he tried to tell in detail about how difficult it is to work on such an ambitious game, especially in the case of the animation department, which projects from ND are so famous for. Against the backdrop of the current situation, neither Sony nor the studio itself made any official comments.

However, after some time personally broke the silence Neil Drackmann, development manager of The Last of Us: Part II, who posted on his personal blog, at first glance, quite distanced from what was happening.

“Even after working on the game for so many years, every time I remain absolutely amazed at the quality of animation in Part II. Our team employs some of the best (if not the best) specialists in the entire industry, both in the field of animation and in relation to general technical literacy. I look forward to seeing for yourself the benefits of their incredible work! “

Obviously, this message immediately attracted a lot of attention. Users began to actively interpret the words of Drackmann, arguing about exactly what the developer wanted to say. Some of them focused on the fact that the game designer is sincerely proud of the work of his team and thus pays tribute to them. Others hastened to accuse him of cynicism and irresponsible attitude towards their employees.. At the ResetEra forum, they called for a boycott of the game, but this decision had many opponents from the local fans of The Last of Us.

Supporters of Naughty Dog point out that most major studios that produce top games do not do without refining, while opponents accuse them of slavish thinking and urge them to look at the situation from a different angle – if you don’t make noise, people in various companies will continue to suffer .

After a few more hours, Drackmann publishes a comment, obviously inspired by an unending drama.

“The unsung heroes of Part II are members of our manufacturing department. You all turned chaos into an absolute order, organized comprehensive plans, established communication. Without you, the game would not be what it is today. My respect,” the developer added.

Regardless of the intentions of the eminent developer, all of his latest dynamics on Twitter only added fuel to the fire. But colleagues, several current Naughty Dog employees hastened to speak in defense, including one of the senior game designers and a member of the now infamous animation department.

“Thank you !!! I’m glad to be part of the team,” the animator ND writes in response to Drackmann’s words.

The Last of Us: Part II is released May 29, 2023.
