MTS received the first license in Russia to launch 5G networks – Igromania

Brand name MTS was the first in Russia to receive a license to provide mobile communication services in the 5G format.

The permission implies the deployment of the network in almost all regions of the country. The communication will use the 24.25-24.65 GHz band within the 5G / IMT-2020 standard.

First, business and large enterprises, primarily in the oil and gas industry, will gain access to the new communications. This will allow monitoring the infrastructure, controlling equipment and drones via the mobile network. It is also useful in artificial intelligence systems, the Internet of Things, augmented and virtual reality.

They wanted to put up frequencies in the range of 24.25-24.65 GHz for auction, but the State Commission on Radio Frequencies on March 17 decided to allocate them for the development of 5G to an indefinite circle of people. That is, to obtain a permit, you just need to submit an application.

VimpelCom has already stated that without the rules for using fifth-generation networks, it is impossible to ensure the launch of a commercial network. In addition, the best for this purpose was and remains the “golden range” of 3.4-3.8 GHz, while the available 24.25-24.65 GHz will provide only spot coverage and will be economically unprofitable.

Experts confirm that operation at such high frequencies will interrupt the signal as soon as the subscriber leaves the line of sight of the base station. But so far there is no alternative, because the “golden range” is occupied by the systems of law enforcement agencies and satellite operators.
