The Ministry of Communications announced a decline in the quality of streaming services from Russia

The coronavirus pandemic and the transition of a significant part of specialists to remote work inevitably increased the load on the Internet network. Earlier YouTube and Netflix began to limit the quality of video content, did the same Facebook and other social networks, as well as online services.
Now, as reported by “Vedomosti”, Oleg Ivanov, deputy head of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications, at an online forum“ Communication Networks, Content and Digital Services in Russia versus COVID-19, ”said that a number of Russian companies agreed to reduce the quality of video broadcasts and disable auto-start playback.

Willingness to do it confirmed Mail.ru Group, “Yandex“,”Gazprom Media Holding“,”Rambler“,”Sberbank” and many others. They agreed on the idea of reducing video resolution to 720p in mobile applications and to 1080p in browsers.

All these measures should reduce the burden on information networks and intermediate nodes, although providers have stated that there is nothing to fear, because the supply bandwidth of communication channels is large.
