Microsoft: Backward Compatibility The Xbox Series X will provide support for thousands of games at launch – new details

May 28 on the official news portal Xbox a large article was published in which the lead developer Xbox Series X Jason Ronald talked about launching old games on a new console.

Read the bulk of the bulk material below.

  • Players will have the opportunity not only to launch projects of the past, but also be content with the best versions of games from all four generations of Xbox.
  • When switching to a new platform, not only games will be transferred, but also progress in them, as well as achievements, lists of friends and communities.

  • All previously released accessories and peripherals will be fully compatible with the Xbox Series X.
  • Engineers have already spent more than 100 thousand hours testing various projects, and by the time of launch this figure will double.
  • Thousands of games can be launched right now on the Xbox Series X, from blockbusters and iconic classics to fan favorites.
  • Backward compatibility fully utilizes the capabilities of the processor and graphics subsystem of the Xbox Series X, as well as the integrated SSD in the console.
  • No crutches like Boost mode (acceleration) or Downclocking (lower frequency). All games will work with maximum performance.
  • The new hardware will increase the resolution in old games to 4K, while using anisotropic texture filtering. Frame rate will increase from 30 to 60 or from 60 to 120FPS.
  • Older games will also significantly reduce boot time due to a huge leap in performance and a dedicated NVME solid-state drive.

  • In partnership with the Xbox Advanced Technology Group, the Xbox Series X team has created a new, innovative HDR recovery technique, which will allow the platform to automatically add HDR support to old games.
  • The technique is processed by the platform itself, so it will not have any impact on performance. HDR will be available on Xbox 360 projects and original Xbox games developed almost 20 years ago, long before technology.
  • The new Quick Resume feature will work not only in next-generation projects, but also in backward compatible ones. It allows users to resume the game from where they left off.

The Xbox Series X will go on sale later this year.
