The difference between the two generations: Horizon: Forbidden West graphics for PlayStation 5 compared to Zero Dawn

On the night of May 27-28, studio Guerrilla Games held a 14-minute gameplay show Horizon: Forbidden West in the version for the PlayStation 5 console. Based on the demonstration, the ElAnalistaDeBits channel published a preliminary analysis of the shown demo with a comparison of the graphics of the sequel and the first part

  • The gameplay is recorded at 2160p and 30 FPS, but due to the compression of the video, it is difficult to determine if the resolution is native or not. It is also not yet known whether the game will have a 60 FPS mode – for a rough idea of how the game can work with an increased frame rate, the blogger ran the video through the neural network and compared the two versions.
  • The detail and animation of faces has been improved. Close-ups of faces no longer look overly shiny;
  • The use of ray tracing is not noticed. The implementation of reflections seems to be done by standard methods;
  • The geometrical detail of the environment has increased significantly. Chances are, the PS4 version will be easier;
  • The physics of water has been improved. The ripples on the surface have become more detailed;
  • The variety and quantity of vegetation has increased. Aloy’s movements now affect not only tall, but also small grass;
  • Added new animations for movements in combat;
  • Improved shadow filtering, lighting, draw range and sand physics. In general, it is noticeable that Guerrilla has pumped over the Decima Engine, despite the cross-gen release of the game.
