Russian Railways wants to buy a PC at Elbrus for a billion rubles – review

The state company Russian Railways has announced a tender for 1.08 billion rubles for the acquisition of 15 thousand personal computers based on domestic processors “Elbrus“.

According to the tender documentation, one PC should cost no more than 72 thousand rubles. At the same time, the kit should include a system unit, a monitor with a diagonal of 23.8 inches, a keyboard, a mouse, cables, and so on. PC specifications are not specified, only processor specifications are known.

It is stated that the chip should have one central and one graphic core with support for acceleration of 3D-graphics. The base clock frequency is 800 MHz. This indicates the processor “Elbrus 1C +“Released in 2016. It was created using a 40-nanometer process technology. They want to use Linux as the OS.

Applications are planned to be accepted until January 23, and bidding is scheduled for February 5. The winner must transfer the equipment until May 25, 2023.

Note that earlier similar orders had already been received from some ministries of the Russian Federation, but there the amounts ranged from 50 to 400 million rubles. In addition, the development of these PCs is hindered by a small amount of software.
