Return of the King: Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Review

Successful release Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy from the studio Vicarious visions let the developers go through the bins Activisionto reanimate other forgotten projects. Without thinking twice, the enthusiastic team began to “treat” the series Tony hawk’s pro skater, in which the last more or less successful game came out about 15 years ago. It is worth noting here that this is not the first time for Vicarious Visions to work with games under the license of the famous skateboarder. Once upon a time, experts helped Neversoft with the transfer of old games to various platforms (primarily Game boy advance). After Warehouse Demo, trial version Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, it was clear that the developers were on the right track, but there was still a little skepticism. We have studied the full project and now we will tell you about it.

The collection, as it was in the demo, opens with a cool cut of tricks Tony Hawke, Rodney Mullen and other famous skateboarders. The roller goes under the bottomhole reefs Rage Against the Machine – Guerrilla Radio, and after the splash screen on the main screen turns on Goldfinger – Superman… All this evokes nostalgia and pleasant memories. And in general, such feelings will accompany fans all the time they play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2. It quickly becomes noticeable how carefully and carefully the developers approach the remake. They clearly love the episode and know very well what the audience wants.

Before you start skating in parks and squares, you need to choose one of two dozen skateboarders or create your own. Among the ready-made ones, there are both “oldies” like Hawke, Burnquist and Muska, as well as modern stars, including Shane O’Neill, Letitia Bufoni and Aori Nishimura. Each has its own initial parameters. Moreover, the developers have not forgotten about the secret characters that need to be discovered. However, I decided to start exploring the game with my own character.

There are not many settings in the editor menu, but you can choose one of twenty prepared faces, which also determines the gender of your hero. Next, they give to choose a hairstyle, makeup and facial hair, as well as tattoos on each part of the body. After that, you can go to the in-game store and look at the assortment of clothes and boards. Here my sense of nostalgia began to roll over again, because among the fairly wide range there were exactly the same shorts, sleeveless jacket and panama that I wore on my hero when I played Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 and 3, but only now all this in a more detailed form.

It is worth noting here that clothes affect only the appearance of the characters and are bought exclusively for in-game money. At the time of this writing, there are no purchases for real money in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, and the currency itself is earned quite easily and quickly.

Further in the HUB menu we are greeted by three dies. The first two are sets of levels from the first and second parts of the series, and the third combines all the stages and allows you to ride freely, exploring locations and setting records against the clock. Without thinking twice, I started the passage with the sequel, because I had already seen the “Warehouse” from the first part in the demo, and I love the second part much more than the first.

It is worth noting here that the levels in the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skaters were well designed and almost every element in the location had its own purpose in terms of gameplay. Railings, trampolines and various ramps are placed in such a way that the player can smoothly transition from one element to another. Here, the developers have tried very hard to recreate the old levels so as not to destroy this balance.
