Nintendo takes an interest in the anime world

The head of the company Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa commented in an interview with an American business magazine Fast company the progress of the production of a full-length animated film about the universe Super mario, which should be released approximately in 2023. The tape is being prepared on the basis of the studio Illumination Entertainmentknown for creating a franchise “despicable Me“.

Furukawa once again pointed out that the film adaptation will be extremely careful with the brand’s heritage. However, it will not in any way affect the production of games about the mustachioed plumber.

“It is very important for us that the results of our work do not let the fans down and at the same time allow Nintendo to continue to create new unique games, where familiar characters will remain in the main roles,” said Shuntaro Furukawa.

The head of Nintendo also recalled that despite the fact that the production of the film is carried out by the specialists of the animation studio Illumination, the last word in many creative decisions remains with the father of Super Mario Shigeru Miyamoto, who is the full-fledged producer of the project.

“Of course, we did not require Illumination to do the film entirely on its own. Mr. Miyamoto is also actively involved in all the production processes of the film adaptation,” added the President of Nintendo.

It is noteworthy that at the end of the conversation, Shuntaro Furukawa also made an interesting remark regarding future Nintendo animation projects. The head of the company admitted that Nintendo is interested in the world of animation (this can mean both anime series and full-length films on different series).

“Overall, animation is a segment we are very interested in. And it doesn’t have to be limited to just one franchise. [Super Mario]”, – concluded Shuntaro Furukawa.

In the nineties and early 2000s, some Nintendo series, including Fire emblem and F-Zero, received anime adaptations, and the Super Mario franchise even had a disastrous feature film, but at some point the company abruptly stopped licensing its IP to third-party partners. Only a few years ago, she began to allow the careful use of the images of some of her heroes in advertising of other people’s brands, agreed on a full-length animated film about Mario and invested a lot of money in the construction of amusement parks Super nintendo world

Nintendo wants to develop its franchises outside of console games, but very selectively and efficiently so as not to harm them.

Earlier it was reported that Sony has taken the focus on anime and entered into a strategic partnership with parent company FromSoftware.
