“My Purpose Is to Bring Love”: Cyberpunk 2077 Cosplay Contest Finalist Accused of Transphobia Replies To Critics

Recently CD Projekt RED held the results of the cosplay competition for the role-playing adventure expected by millions Cyberpunk 2077… Unfortunately, for some of the users, the joyful event was overshadowed by a scandal – one of the participants, publishing her work under the nickname Yugoro, accused of transphobia due to the fact that she decided to convert into the image of a gender-non-conforming person from one of the advertising posters of the game city Knight City… The developers publicly celebrated this cosplay, for which they were also criticized.

After the dissatisfied began to write directly to herself Yugoro, the girl tried to indicate her position, explaining that she considers her work to be a manifestation of self-expression, which should not be hidden under a wave of indignation

“I always try to create my costumes and looks as close to the originals as possible. I pay attention to the smallest details and do everything in my power to make the outfits look organic and bright. You can appreciate my other works, for example, those based on the universe of The Elder Scrolls.

I would also like to remind you that my cosplay exists outside of politics. My goal is to bring love and beauty to the whole world. For the infinite universe – we are just stardust, and are equal to each other in everything. I value life and oppose any form of violence or hatred. “

Unfortunately, even such an exhaustive position did not satisfy the dissatisfied

“If your goal is to bring love and beauty, stop doing cosplay, fetishizing and dehumanizing trans people. This creates prejudice against us and makes our life difficult,” one of the representatives of the trans community wrote to the girl.

“All people have their own problems. Many cisgender men and women face harassment and violence on a daily basis,” the cosplayer replied.

Upset users Twitter and forums ResetEra continue to speak negatively about Yugoro and the developers from CD Projekt RED because they exploit “transphobic“an image without considering the potential harm to vulnerable minority groups.

CDPR representatives have not reacted to the situation so far. Critics demand to remove cosplay and condemn cases of reincarnation of cisgender people into gender-uncomfortable persons in the framework of official contests.

Role-playing game launch Cyberpunk 2077 will take place already November 19 on all current platforms.
