“It All Depends On What You Play”: Valve Clarifies Steam Deck Battery Life

Company Valve confirmed that the portable platform Steam Deck announced last night will be able to work from two to eight hours from one full battery charge – everything will depend on the games you run and the settings you choose

Valve Technical Representative Pierre-Loup Griffe gave an example Portal 2

“It takes about 2-8 hours for the Steam Deck to discharge. When playing Portal 2, it’ll take four hours to run down. If you limit yourself to the gameplay at 30 frames per second, you can play for 5-6 hours.”

“The Steam Deck’s built-in 40-watt battery will provide users with hours of playtime on most games.

For simpler use cases such as streaming, running small 2D games and browsing the web, you can expect 7-8 hours of work, “Valve told reporters.

The developers also confirmed that the Steam Deck has a built-in microphone that can be used to communicate with other players in multiplayer titles. The connection to the network is via Wi-Fi.

The system will ship without a proprietary docking station. Valve has not yet said if it will be able to release it by the start of the Steam Deck and how much it will cost.

When connecting the Steam Deck to a TV via the docking station, the resolution is not limited to 720p, but depending on the game for the game, performance will decrease if you select a higher resolution in the settings.

Steam Deck supports a wide variety of accessories, including Apple’s Wireless AirPods

The portable platform will debut in December 2023 in the US, EU countries and the UK (Russia is not on the list) in three versions with price tags from $ 399 to $ 649. Full specifications are available on the official website
