Hollywood unveiled blacklist 2.0: Layoffs with #BlackLivesMatter Sauce

The US film industry is slowly slipping into chaos. This is facilitated by a pandemic, excessive inflation of production budgets, accumulation of debts, falling profits, and so on. But for some reason this does not stop the studios from spending money on supporting dubious political movements, simultaneously shutting up their mouths to critics.

Blacklist 2.0

In the past few years, in Hollywood there has been a repeat of the situation in the mid-20th century, when, as part of the struggle against the American Communists, a so-called black list was formed, which included many talented people. So, in 2019, the actress Debra Messing demanded to disclose the names of people who supported and sponsored the campaign Donald Trump. In response, the US president accused the actress of McCarthyism.

But a new blacklist does exist. An example is the actor’s story. Antonio Sabato Jr., which is little known to the mass audience. But in 2016, he made a fatal mistake: he publicly supported U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump.

At that time, the Italian migrant had a contract with the television company Abc (owned by studio Disney), who after the election withdrew his proposals. Apparently, the decision was influenced by a skirmish on the air ABC Newsduring which the artist voiced a conspiracy theory of religion Barack Obama, and also expressed confidence in the victory of trump.

Another company with which Sabato Jr. was negotiating the production of a new film explicitly stated the following: “We will never distribute the film because of your affiliation with the president

Antonio Sabato Jr. has never been a major actor, but he has consistently starred every year in several projects. But if you look at his filmography, it turns out that his career ends in 2017. The artist almost became bankrupt and is now forced to work on a construction site. At the beginning of 2023, he again tried to probe the ground in Hollywood, but was refused.

It is possible that such stories in bulk. Sabato Jr. himself claims that many actors are afraid to reveal their political views, because they do not want to be left without work. However, problems can arise even from scratch.

Word H

A great example is a veteran writer Walter Mosley. He took part in the work on the series “Star Trek: Discovery“, but quit after colleagues complained about using a” word with the letter N. “The absurdity is that Mosley himself is an African American. For some reason, the ill-wisher avoided a direct conversation with the writer, instead lodging a complaint with his superiors due to the fact that the scriptwriters’ room is “uncomfortable” to work.

In 2023, the struggle for equal rights in Hollywood continues to undergo mutations. After the African American died in Minneapolis due to the actions of a white police officer George Floyd, in the US, protests began, which then spilled over into pogroms, looting, beating, robbery and so on.

Under the chant of the slogan Black lives matter (“Black lives are important“) cities are burning, people of all skin colors, distraught with impunity, are taking expensive equipment out of broken shops, small business goes bankrupt, and the authorities can’t stabilize the situation. But if you publicly criticize the marauders and say that All lives matter (“All lives are important“), then you will be called a racist who needs to be banned in social networks, beat and kicked out of work.

Lawlessness and disorder

This is exactly what happened to the screenwriter and producer. Craig Gorewho worked on the spin-off of the series “Law and order“. The man posted in Facebook a photograph in which he poses at his own home with a firearm. In the comments, Gore explained that looters were operating just two blocks away, and he would not allow these “bastards” to smash the building that was spent on honest work.

The reaction to the scriptwriter’s statements followed immediately, and in several directions at once. The creator of the series “Law and orderDick wolf fired Craig Gore. After that, the company management NBCUniversal announced the termination of the contract with the writer. The statement on the cake became the cherry on the cake. Paradigmthat no longer collaborates with the “problem customer”. Given this reaction, it is possible that the writer will now encounter difficulties in finding a new job.

Hypocrisy has long been a key quality of Hollywood, and the riots in the United States have once again been perfectly demonstrated. Now major movie studios have come out in support of the rioters, sending a signal that “We are with you! Buy our products!“Those who try to point out that looting has nothing to do with the struggle for equality are being harassed.

But for some reason, filmmakers are “modestly” silent about their sins when, for the sake of promoting projects in other markets (for example, China), they are ready to forget about their progressive principles (hello, Disney). Do not forget that just a few weeks ago, Hollywood stars hidden in their multi-million estates called on ordinary people to stay home so as not to get coronavirus infection. Or COVID-19 stepped back from respect for pogroms?

The fight against the “dissent” at one time was one of the reasons for the collapse of the Hollywood studio system. It remains to be hoped that after falling to the bottom, the American film industry will sober up and restart.
