AT&T announces large-scale merger of Discovery and WarnerMedia

Conglomerate AT&T announced the merger Discovery Inc. and WarnerMedia, thanks to which a huge number of channels and services will be gathered “under one wing”.

In the case of the latter, we are talking about a film studio Warner Bros.as well as streaming service HBO Max and DC Comics Division. The new firm will be headed by the head of Discovery, David Zaslav, and it is not clear what the former head of WarnerMedia Jason Kilar will do.

The most interesting thing is that Discovery has its own site of this kind – Discovery +, so how exactly the content will be distributed between them is not yet clear. Although the press release also mentions the “merger” of libraries, as well as an increase in investment in the production of original products for their services.

In addition to Discovery +, AT&T acquired TV channels Discovery, CNN, TBS, TNT etc. The volume of the transaction was $ 43 billion, it is planned to be completed in 2023.
