The game is designed for 1-4 players and a standard game takes approximately 45 minutes. The authors warn that the desktop version was originally conceived as a challenging game with depth and replayability. It may not be suitable for those who like fast games and games with few rules and components.
In Stardew Valley: The Board Game, players work together to defend the Valley. If they succeed, the Valley will be brought back to life and the Joja Corporation will be expelled from the city. This can be achieved by completing grandfather’s tasks and rebuilding the community center. Targets for each party are randomly selected, which increases replay value.
For one game, players will have to spend a whole year in the Valley. Time is tracked using a deck, from which a seasonal card is played in each round. It helps you keep track of the weeks of the year by revealing the weather and different types of events.
In each round, the players discuss plans and place their pawn in the part of the Valley that they want to focus on. Players can visit the mine, go fishing on the beach, water crops, take care of animals, and so on.
