Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnik expects the gaming industry to be able to create projects with graphics indistinguishable from reality in ten years. He discussed the latest technological advances at the UBS Global TMT virtual conference.
“Technology will enable our creative professionals to create never-before-imagined experiences, including creating games with photorealistic graphics.”
“What we are doing now looks a lot like live action, but it’s still animation.
In ten years, if desired, it will be possible to create completely realistic products. Everything will be processed by the computer, “he added.
Zelnik said last year that realistic graphics are particularly well suited to certain game genres, such as the NBA 2K basketball series. At the same time, the publisher will not bring all projects closer to photorealism.
“This does not mean that photorealism will affect all of our games. For example, Borderlands will always be an animated universe.”
New basketball simulator NBA 2K21 became the first nextgen game with a price tag of $ 70. Zelnik called this decision “reasonable”, and consumers, in his opinion, were generally satisfied with the game.
During his presentation, Zelnik also stated that Take-Two will “probably” complete planned deal on the acquisition of Codemasters studio in the first quarter of 2023.
