Sony Allows Beta Testers To Install Solid State Drive In PS5… 9 months after the launch of the console, the manufacturer released firmware that opens access to the M.2 slot. At the same time, an instruction with technical requirements appeared on the official website.
The required NVMe drives must have a PCIe 4.0 interface, a minimum read speed of 5.5 GB / s, a volume of 250 GB to 4 TB, and a width of no more than 22 mm.
Seagate previously confirmed that the FireCuda 530 SSD will be compatible with the PS5. It comes with or without a heatsink and has a read speed of 7.3 GB / s.
In addition to unlocking the M.2 slot, the update adds 3D audio support for TV speakers, UX improvements, and some “customization options” in some regions who have installed the firmware.
