Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa in the framework of Q & A-session with investors, which appeared after published earlier financial performance of the Japanese platform holder said that 30% of Switch Lite customers purchased a handheld gaming device as their second Switch family system. Nintendo claims that the more compact model not only brings more money from the same audience, but also helps to expand the market for its games.
This figure may seem quite large, given that the standard Switch also has support for portable mode.
“The trend we are seeing among consumers who have previously played Pokémon games on portable systems is that some of them prefer to buy a dedicated Nintendo Switch Lite portable system,” said Furukawa.
“In addition, we can confirm that a significant proportion of customers who choose to purchase Nintendo Switch Lite as their first Nintendo Switch family system are women.”
Furukawa previously stated that Nintendo is not afraid of the appearance of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, because companies are focused on different consumers.
“The Nintendo Switch business will enter its fourth year soon, and we believe that it is only entering the middle of its life cycle. To think about where to move in the next and future financial years, we are forced to look much further.”
Furukawa added that for Nintendo, one of the key factors will be increasing Switch Lite sales without compromising the dynamics of the original Switch. In addition, in his opinion, it is important “continue to make efforts to increase sales of already released games over a longer period of time than before”.
