Microsoft Flight Simulator One Month Later: 1 Million Copies Sold, Better Map of America Announced, and VR Beta Launch Date

Civil aviation simulator released on PC at the end of August Microsoft Flight Simulator sold all over the world in circulation over 1 million copies. About this in an interview with the French edition La Tribune Bordeaux told the head of the studio Asobo Sebastian Wloch

“We’ve already sold over a million copies of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Sales of the game will continue to grow in the future thanks to the very good reviews it has received. So we’re doing well.”

This figure includes only sales of the game, excluding subscription service. Xbox Game Pass, thanks to which the project gained its first million players within two weeks after the release, which became the best start of “GamePass” on the PC in history. Taking into account direct sales, now the total number of players should be even higher.

In a conversation with La Tribune Bordeaux, Wloch added that studio plans to support Microsoft Flight Simulator at least ten years… The game recently featured an updated digital elevation map of Japan with improved city detail, and the Americas will soon be similarly transformed with more handcrafted landmarks and airports. The release of the update should take place before the end of this year.

The head of Asobo Studio also shared information on which game engine was used to create the new Microsoft Flight Simulator. It turns out that the project was based on FTech Engine – tools Turn 10used in games of the series Forza Motorsport and Forza horizon

“Turn 10 provided us with great support throughout the development of the simulator, which allowed the team to thoroughly explore the physics, photorealistic graphics, layout and basic structure of the FTech Engine, which has been slightly modified to handle large amounts of data.”

At the first stage, a narrow circle of users will be allowed to experience flying airplanes in virtual reality, and at first VR support will be limited only to headsets Windows Mixed Reality… Compatibility with other helmets will come later.
