The Russian-speaking World of Warcraft community has always been distinguished by excellent organization and bright, charismatic leaders. In the days of Classic, the CIS did not have its own server, but the players did not give up and literally recaptured the Warsong server from the Europeans. There, pioneers built the Russian-speaking community WoW. It was cohesive, successful in PvE, and aggressive in PvP. Many of the nicknames of those players are still remembered in the community, and their exploits have become part of the history of WoW.
Tango and the battle with Kazzak
Tango (Nasedo), or Oleg, is a well-known raid leader from Khabarovsk. He has been active in World of Warcraft since the classic version. Tango gained wide popularity after the publication of the timberspeak record during the battle with world boss Vladika Kazzak. For two minutes of the battle Oleg in a bright and expressive manner strictly led the raid. This emotionality, team voice and total immersion in the gameplay have become a hallmark of Tango. At the same time, unlike many radar systems, despite strong phrases, Oleg was an extremely friendly and pleasant person. His acquaintances said that Tango cannot be called a “kniffer,” he was fairly well off and he has two sons.
In 2012, Oleg died at the age of 45. The Russian-speaking community has united around this tragedy. On fan sites, people recalled joint raids, highlights and intimate conversations with Oleg. There were several topics in official forums in memory of Tango, players even created a petition so that Blizzard added a memorial to WoW in his honor, but the developers did not. According to the memoirs of Oleg’s Sogildians, he was madly in love with World of Warcraft and took great pleasure in mastering raid content and premieres on the battlefield. Tango’s comments are still appearing under the YouTube videos featuring Tango with nice words addressed to him.
Oleg’s quotes from the same battle against Kazzak were preserved in the community and became local memes and a kind of old-school test: “Eat well”, “Let’s not mess up, boys.” It will be a beautiful victory. ” When I first registered with Vkontakte back in 2007, this record was the first that I added to my music. You can find it now, including on YouTube.
Hiruko and 12 accounts
In 2014, Hiruko became the first player in the world to complete all the achievements in World of Warcraft. For the sake of this, together with his CrashTest guild, he switched to an unpopular server. Timmeyts Hiruko joined both factions to track the pumping process of other players. As soon as someone started to push forward, Crash Test immediately sent a group of gankers that slowed down the development of competitors. Other Sogildians did their best to protect Hiruko himself, supplying him with all the necessary resources.
Hiruko simultaneously swung immediately on 12 accounts to get a number of unique achievements for each class. To do this, he prudently bought himself a new powerful computer. The tactics of Hiruko and his guild worked – on April 20 he created forum topic, which said that “passed World of Warcraft”, earning 21,995 achievements. The second-place player at that moment was only ten points behind Hiruko.
The community reacted ambiguously to the act of Hiruko. Many felt that a similar method of victory using the power and resources of an entire guild was cheating and disrespect for others. Despite criticism, Blizzard did not find anything illegal in the player’s actions. Hiruko was able to leave a mark on history, and his teammates from CrashTest showed amazing unity.
Melton and the Tears of the Horde
Paladin Melton was a thunderstorm of the Horde and one of the most famous gankers in the Russian-speaking community of the classic World of Warcraft. Melton, guided by the principles of the Scarlet Order, aimed at cleansing Azeroth of the Horde spawn. He could hunt for hours and kill the players of the enemy faction. Melton carefully planned each sortie, purchasing all kinds of potions and amplifiers. Thanks to such preparation, he could deal with several rivals simultaneously. The Horde did have to gather in groups to repel the paladin, but without the killed enemy Melton did not die.
The paladin’s ganks were so frequent that a large number of disgruntled users appeared on the forums who condemned the Alliance player. Melton began to fight not only in Azeroth, but also on the Internet, ironically responding to his haters. He even started his own blog, where in a journalistic style he talked about the everyday life of the ganker and shared tips. Melton also became famous thanks to the honor guide: with his help, he easily helped his teammates to raise top ranks in PvP.
Beterok and the Westfall Massacre
Veterk is the Horde response to Melton’s adventures. This shaman also became known for his constant ganks. Unlike the paladin, he preferred to hunt for low-level heroes. Veterk, being a level 60 shaman, spent hours in the Western Territory, where Alliance players swing from level 10 to level 20. He turned this zone into a real meat grinder, pulling the Alliance forces that came to protect the “younger ones” into a location. The shaman was even more criticized in the forums – he was called a weak player who is afraid of battles with equal strengths. However, later Veterok showed that he can also kill 60 levels. Sometimes it was possible to drive the Horde from the Westfall only from a squad of paladins.
The alliance did not forgive the shaman of his crimes, so sometimes he was punished with particular sophistication. Priests using Mind Control brought Veterok to the city, where the paladins hung on him the ability of Divine Intervention – it made the hero completely invulnerable, but paralyzed. Thus, the formidable shaman was turned into a local scarecrow, which was put up for auction in Stormwind or Ironforge.
Raven and Fire Resist
The raven is known to the gaming community thanks to a video from a gathering of fans of World of Warcraft, where in a rather emotional and convincing manner he explained to his interlocutor what Immolate Improved is. I can’t attach the video because of the vocabulary used in it, but finding it by keywords will not be a problem.
Raven, who played for the warlock, argued that the opponent’s resistance to fire would not help against the ability of Immolate Improved, because “the ability of his resist is extremely small.” A meme with this phrase went beyond the WoW community and became one of the most popular in the second half of the 2000s in Runet.
After that meeting, three more videos were recorded with the participation of Raven, in which he confidently explained to the audience how to fight in duels. Several quotes of his immediately firmly settled in the community: “Who is the duel? Which one? Come with me a duel! ”,“ This is lol, generally complete ”and, of course,“ The possibility of his resist is extremely small. ” The image of the Raven itself has also turned into a meme – users have made it a peculiar embodiment of all the olds that teach young players to life.
Immolate Improved’s ability has changed a long time ago, and players are still arguing whether resistance to fire against it helped or not. Most believe that Raven was clearly wrong in that discussion.
Raven did nothing significant in the game itself, but he, albeit unconsciously, popularized it. The humor and fire resist memes were funny and intuitive even to those who did not play WoW.
Blizzard immortalized the achievements of many Western players in World of Warcraft, but the developers were not so attentive to Russian-speaking users. We don’t have our Lyroe Jenkins or Indalamar, who were added to WoW. However, in the Russian-speaking community, there were enough vibrant users who lived the game. For many, they were the personification of the lamp atmosphere of 2005-2007 that reigned in World of Warcraft.
