Hidden web browser found in PlayStation 5 – it works

Officially Playstation 5 does not have a browser, however, while exploring the console, the Ars Technica portal found a limited hidden web browsing interface in it, which can be used to access the Internet

The easiest way to open the PS5 web browser is to go to system settings and download the user manual. Unlike most other information menus on the system, it opens in a browser, as indicated by the displayed URL manuals.playstation.net… If you visit this page from a standard desktop or mobile browser, the site will give an error message, but when you open it from the PS5 menu, you will see an image explaining how to use this manual with a controller DualSense… The only problem is that the PS5 system is blocking the address bar, and the manual itself does not contain links to go to external resources.

However, there is a second option. To do this, scroll down to the Users & Accounts menu and navigate to the Associate with Other Services option. There you will be able to select Twitter, which opens in the same web page asking you to sign in to your account. As intended, this page is intended for logging into Twitter, linking an account to the PlayStation 5 and returning to the system menu. But if you click on the little icon Twitter in the upper left corner, you will go to the standard web interface of the social network

Then you just need to log into your account and then you will have full access to Twitter through the PS5 web browser. Although the address bar on Twitter is also blocked, links in tweets and profile descriptions can be used to easily navigate to external sites.… You can plug in a USB keyboard for easier text entry, but a mouse doesn’t seem to be supported in a web browser, so you’ll still need to use a gamepad to move the pointer around the screen.

After a little random testing, the editors noted that the PS5 web browser opens most of the pages without any complaints.… Video services such as Youtube, Vimeo and Twitch, also work without any problems, but do not support switching to full screen mode, while streaming music services Spotify, Soundcloud and Bandcamp although they load the interface, they do not play music.

Why Sony hid a completely working web browser is still a mystery, especially since a fully functional web page viewer with an address bar, tabs and the like was already available on PS4 from the release. Even stranger, the PS5’s system menu has a web browser settings section where you can turn off JavaScript, delete cookies, and turn off cross-site tracking.

PlayStation 5 is already available in select regions and will launch in Russia on November 19th.
