Last month, the St. Petersburg prosecutor’s office was initiated proceedings against a number of famous anime series, including “Death note“,”Naruto“, and”Elven song“. The court called for a ban on their distribution in the country, indicating that they can harm children.
Hearings on the case were held in St. Petersburg today, and the whole process was publicly broadcast online. To date, as a result of a short trial, in which outside experts were involved, the prosecutor’s claim was satisfied – within the territory of Of Russia anime banned “Inuyashiki“cult”Death note“, and “Tokyo ghoul“… However, we are talking now only about blocking several sites on which the above-mentioned series were freely available to viewers.
After watching several episodes of each of the series, the court and experts noted the presence of scenes in them that could negatively affect the mental health of viewers.
In particular, the anime “Inuyashiki“about the cyborg grandfather was accused of blatantly demonstrating acts of violence, as well as”destructive principles“that can nudge young viewers into suicidal thoughts.Inuyashiki“experts also found found”hints of unconventional sexual relations“.
In case of “Death note“the experts noted that the name of this anime is capable of”generate interest in death“and the protagonist Yagami Light – not a strict and confident guideline for young people, but a criminal, which, according to the court, is unacceptable. During the proceedings, the news of January 12 about the suicide of a St. Petersburg schoolboy was also mentioned. The media wrote that he could watch during his lifetime “Notebook“by mimicking the actions seen in the anime.
Discontent of the court and experts regarding “Tokyo ghoul“went through a similar prism. Experts watched individual scenes of the show, establishing in them the presence of violent episodes that can lead to violence, as well as characters in whose gender the audience may not immediately understand.
It is important to note that the court session is not over yet – the authorities are analyzing the content of the anime “Elven song“.
