Against the backdrop of the closure of conventional cinemas in the United States, drive-ins again began to gain popularity among viewers – that is, open-air cinemas, where people usually come by car.
According to new reports, a considerable part of the country’s 305 movie points recorded a fresh influx of viewers. For example, ticket sales for the Paramount drive-in have increased at least twice.
Owners of many cinemas of this type take additional measures to protect themselves from the virus – their employees sell gloves-on tickets and so on.
Over the past couple of decades, the drive-in industry has been slowly dying, so this surge of interest has proved quite important to it. If at the peak of the industry in 1958 in the United States there were more than 4 thousand screens in the open air, now in the country there are only 549 screens.
