Edition “Vedomosti” studied the situation with the shortage of video cards in retail. As it turned out, cryptominers and the Bitcoin boom are again to blame for this.
The Vedomosti journalist found out that miners buy video cards in lots of thousands or more directly from suppliers, so the devices simply do not reach stores. For the same reason, it is now impossible to find at least somewhat productive models in retail: a video card of the maximum level of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is available – and that one is more expensive than usual.
Russian retailers expect the fever to continue until at least this summer. At the same time, video card manufacturers report that deliveries (which have also been hit by the coronavirus pandemic) to stores will not improve until mid-spring.
