Lanning first talked about the reasons the team had to reschedule Soulstorm several times. The fact is that before the conclusion of partnership agreements with Epic Games and Sony the studio independently financed the project, so it took more time to develop. The release delays were also influenced by the noticeably increased amount of content and the version for Playstation 5, which was not part of the original plans of Oddworld Inhabitants.
“We had to learn new hardware [PS5] and work with Unity on tooling for it. It was difficult, exhausting and weirdly fun. “
Lanning also clarified that for the first completion of the Oddworld: Soulstorm story campaign, gamers will need an average of about 20 hours, however, trophy hunters or stats hunters can easily spend “tens of hours” in the game thanks to the replayability that was not available in the previous parts of the series.
In addition, the developer paid attention to the technical component, stating that on PlayStation 5, the game will run in 1440p / 60 FPS (4K for interface), and on PS4 – in 1080p / 30 FPS… At the same time, the versions for PC and PS5 will be approximately the same except for the tactile advantages of the DualSense controller and 3D sound, although with good audio equipment, users of personal computers will be able to enjoy similar sound.
As for the features involved in Soulstorm DualSensethen, Lanning says, they will help increase the player’s emotional bond with the character. Gamers will be able to feel Abe’s palpitations during stressful and dangerous situations, as well as feel the resistance of adaptive triggers when the protagonist has to push something or fight opponents.
Oddworld: Soulstorm goes on sale 6th April on PC in the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, where it will be a temporary console exclusive. PS5 owners will be able to get the game for free right on the day of release as part of the April giveaway PS Plus…
