What games did British gamers buy in the last week of 2019

Shooter released at the end of October this year Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from the publisher Activision and developers from the studio Infinity ward The third week in a row does not leave the first line of British physical sales. This publication reports GamesIndustry.biz with reference to recent data from Gfk chart-track.

The five leaders in the reporting week maintained its position. The second line was left for the football simulator FIFA 20followed by a Jedi action movie Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, and Nintendo Switch exclusives in the face Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and Luigi’s Mansion 3 closed TOP 5.

According to the tracker, compared to last year, sales of “boxed” versions of games in 2019 fell by almost 20%. In addition, it became known that the current top marked the end of an era of official British charts, since in 2023 a new supplier will provide data to journalists.

GfK has been providing sales data in the UK for more than two decades, but in recent years, charts have been criticized several times because they only track physical copies of games. This is due to the fact that such large network sellers “boxed” products like Amazon, GAME and Argos share sales data with GfK, and digital services like Xbox live, Steam and PSN – not.

All these factors contributed to the emergence of a new project called GSDlaunched under the auspices of the European trading authority ISFE (European Federation of Interactive Software). Although in different ways, but GSD tracks both physical and digital game sales. In the case of the former, information comes directly from retailers and covers everything boxed versions of released games. Concerning “numbers”, then the data comes directly from the publishers, but not all of them agree to disclose it (Bethesda and Nintendo do not agree). One of the unpleasant moments of the GSD charts is that it takes a little longer to collect and compile the data.

Nevertheless, the UKIE interactive entertainment association calls this transition a significant step forward and from next week official British sales will be published based on tracker data GSD. Due to the difference in available data, UKIE will present separate diagrams for physical and digital versions of games.
