“We want to be honest with you”: Ubisoft has responded to players ’dissatisfaction with Trackmania’s distribution model

Just the day before we reported about the distribution model of a new racing arcade Trackmania from Ubisoft, which caused concern in the gaming community due to the fact that it does not involve the acquisition of a full version of the game and gaining constant access to all content.

On paper, the developers’ approach to Trackmania initially indicated a subscription model: you pay money and use content for a certain period of time. However community manager Ubisoft Nadeo Amelie Castelnerac in correspondence with users, she refused to recognize the model as “subscription”, which only confused the audience.

“In fact, it’s not a subscription model, but a limited time access to the game. You pay for access to the game for a certain period of time, and that’s all. If you want to play it again when the time runs out, then you will have to again buy a game, “she said.

After that, the managing director of Ubisoft Nadeo tried to bring clarity. Florent Castelnéracwho gave additional comments about the distribution model of the upcoming game.

He wrote that the model can be compared with seasonal passes, because gamers pay in advance for any additional content that will be released during the agreed period. He also added that after its completion, players retain all this material.. A new subscriber will receive new content further.

“After a year of subscription, your account will return to the“ Start Access ”level. All official maps, tracks of the day and constructed tracks will remain with you. Your access to the game will not be suspended,” he assured.

Castelnérac noted that Ubisoft wants to be extremely honest and transparent to the audience. She chose a model for distributing the game to provide her continued support without the need for quick sequels. As a result, players will be able to decide how much time they want to spend in Trackmania, receiving content for money – for example, a year or more.

According to him, the rapid creation of new games to generate additional income may lead to the fact that developers will offer the target audience more profitable ideas for themselves than give out really interesting content.

At the same time, Ubisoft Nadeo believes that the annual subscription to Trackmania will be optimal for most users. According to statistics, on average, players spend a year in one online game. A three-year subscription is aimed at fans of the series.

As for the “lifetime access” to the game, Ubisoft cannot guarantee it, because it is an online game – they cannot live forever. That is why the company chose the concept with subscriptions initially. At the same time, the servers of some projects of the Nadeo team have not been disconnected for 15 years.

“We decided to be as honest as possible without selling” lifetime “access. We believe that it’s announced now [максимальная] a three-year subscription is a good term, “he said.

Release date Trackmania will be held on July 1 this year on PC through digital stores Epic Games Store and Play.
