Underground sued – review

Publishing house Little orbit sued the studio Descendent and its head Eric Peterson. They are accused of violating the terms of the contract, negligence, fraud, publishing false statements and undermining the reputation of partners.

In 2014, a number of employees Cloud imperium games quit work on the notorious space simulator Star citizen and founded Descendent Studios to create a series-inspired game. Descent. Title rights received from Interplay, after which they announced a prequel, Descent: Underground.

In 2015, the game was brought to Kickstarterwhere she raised the required 600 thousand dollars. Additional funding was provided by Little Orbit to release Descent: Underground on PC in 2017, and eventually move it to the console.
Studio Descendent, however, failed one after another all the deadlines, and then those that replaced them. The latest release date is February 2019, but in July of that year, developers declaredthat they need a couple more months to polish and test.

Little Orbit claims that all materials created by Descendent did not meet agreed quality standards. This forced the publisher to take additional costs to attract external developers.

In addition, the company suspects that the rights to Descent are also not clean: it seems that Interplay has revoked its license. The creators of Descent: Underground are accused of having tricked them into paying their salaries, without even intending to release the game on time.

The publisher estimates material damage at no less than two million dollars. And also asks the court to find out who owns the intellectual rights to the project.
