Top 30 Best Anime Winter 2023 – Part 1. Attack on Titans Endgame, Five Brides Season 2, The Promised Neverland Season 2

We’re kicking off our guide to the winter 2023 anime season, which is well worth watching. In the first part, we talk about ten projects.

The story of a boy from a village in front of a difficult dungeon / Tatoeba Last Dungeon Mae no Mura no Shounen ga Joban no Machi de Kurasu Youna Monogatari

  • Genre: Action, Fantasy
  • Premiere: January 4, 2023
  • Episodes: 12
  • Studio: Liden Films
  • Director: Migmi
  • Source: Light novel

About what: An adventure title about the boy Lloyd, who sets out to meet fate in search of feats and achievements. The twist of the story lies in the fact that the hero is much more powerful than he might have thought during his life in his village, which leads to various humorous scenes and scenarios.

What we think: A very light comedy with naive, accessible and simple humor. The thing is, if you want to cheer up.

Picnic in the Otherworld / Urasekai Picnic

  • Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Mystic
  • Premiere: January 4, 2023
  • Episodes: 12
  • Studio: Felix Film
  • Director: Takuya Sato
  • Source: Light novel

About what: Inspired by “Roadside Picnic” by the Strugatsky brothers, a yuri story about a mysterious alternative world full of dangers and strange creatures from Japanese myths. The plot is based on the story of the girl Soravo Kamikosi, who fell into another reality called “the other side”. There, the heroine meets a terrible monster, but at the last moment she is saved by the mysterious Toriko Nishina, for whom the otherworldly is a familiar thing. Later, a friendship is struck between the girls, giving rise to something greater.

What we think: The setting alone is enough to make the anime look attractive. And yuri in such an entourage is a very unusual mixture.

Attack on Titan: The Final / Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season

  • Genre: Action, Fantasy
  • Premiere: December 7, 2023
  • Episodes: unknown
  • Studio: MAPPA
  • Director: Jun Shishido, Yuichiro Hayashi
  • Source: Manga

About what: The triumphant finale of “Titans” needs no introduction. The episodes that have managed to come out storm the ratings of various aggregators and thematic resources, and the concentration of events does not drop almost for a minute.

What we think: The change of the central production studio to MAPPA really affected the picture somewhat – a little awkward 3D models often flicker in the frame. However, the viewing pleasure is no less.

Re: Zero. Life from scratch in an alternate world – Season 2 (Part 2) / Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu – 2nd Season (Part 2)

  • Genre: Fantasy, Action
  • Premiere: January 6, 2023
  • Episodes: 12
  • Studio: White Fox
  • Director: Masaharu Watanabe
  • Source: Light novel

The expected return of the immortal Subaru and the girls in the sequel to the second season of “Rezero” so far pleases with long episodes and a pleasant picture. The narration directly continues the storylines of the previous series, so if you missed them for some reason, you have nothing to do here.

What we think: The title is popular, and you probably follow it, which means there is no point in skipping the continuation.

Waiting rating: 4/5

Hortensia Saga

  • Genre: Fantasy, Action
  • Premiere: January 7, 2023
  • Episodes: 12
  • Studio: Liden Films
  • Director: Yasuto Nishikata
  • Source: Game

About what: Adaptation of a mobile F2P game set in a traditional fantasy setting with knights, kingdoms and giant armies. The story focuses on the exiled princess and her attempts to save her life and regain the lost throne.

What we think: Quite a traditional tie and not the most unprepossessing pattern. Except for the not-too-high tempo, not a bad title for a couple of nights.

Beastars – 2nd Season

  • Genre: Drama, Everyday
  • Premiere: January 7, 2023
  • Episodes: unknown
  • Studio: Orange
  • Director: Shinichi Matsumi
  • Source: Manga

The new season is almost a slice about anthropomorphic animals. In the center of the story is a large and gray, but rather modest and quiet wolf Legosi, who is a student at the Cherryton Academy. At some point, the calm life of the hero is disturbed by a terrible event – the death of Tam’s alpaca, which significantly spoils the relationship between herbivores and predators. Against the background of all this, Legoshi meets the rabbit Haru, towards whom he gradually begins to experience complex feelings.

What we think: In essence – a slice, but about humanoid animals. Lots of cute characters, and even 3D graphics do not distract from viewing.

Yuru Camp △ – 2nd Season

  • Genre: Comedy, Everyday
  • Premiere: January 7, 2023
  • Episodes: 13
  • Studio: C-Station
  • Director: Yoshiaki Kyogoku
  • Source: Manga

About what: Continuation of the most comfortable sketches from the life of girls who are keen on hiking and outdoor recreation. The beautiful landscapes of Japanese nature, the inviting atmosphere and the completely unhurried pace set the ideal mood for relaxation.

What we think: If you watch anime in order to warm your heart in cold winters, this title simply cannot be missed.

Celestial Design Department / Tenchi Souzou Design-bu

  • Genre: Comedy, Everyday
  • Premiere: January 7, 2023
  • Episodes: 12
  • Studio: Asahi Production
  • Director: Soichi Masui
  • Source: Manga

About what: An unusual story about the design department of God himself, who is entrusted with a difficult mission – the creation of animals that will inhabit the world. Animals and comedy are a formula that never fails.

What we think: A lot of funny scenes, a lot of cute animals – you don’t need more for happiness. This impression is formed from the first few episodes watched.

Waiting rating: 3/5

The Promised Neverland – Season 2 / Yakusoku no Neverland – 2nd Season

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esTm0x10HW4

  • Genre: Science Fiction, Action
  • Premiere: January 7, 2023
  • Episodes: 11
  • Studio: CloverWorks
  • Director: Mamoru Kambe
  • Source: Manga

About what: The plot tells about orphans who decide to leave their orphanage after learning that they are literally raised there as food for otherworldly creatures. Having got out of the walls of their former home, the heroes face new dangers of an unfamiliar and extremely inhospitable world for them.

What we think: Season 2 suffers from a somewhat sluggish storytelling pace, and the divergence from the original manga only becomes more noticeable with each episode.

Waiting rating: 3/5

Five Brides – Season 2 / Go-toubun no Hanayome ∬

  • Genre: Romance, Comedy, Everyday life
  • Premiere: January 8, 2023
  • Episodes: 12
  • Studio: Bibury Animation Studios
  • Director: Kaori
  • Source: Manga

About what: The unremarkable protagonist Futaro Uesugi becomes a tutor for five twin sisters at once, which, of course, immediately automatically turns into a foundation for easy comic sketches and an uncomplicated narration. There are many girls, but there is only one hero – you yourself know everything.

What we think: One of the most popular haremniks of recent years is back on the screens. When there are a lot of girls, and they are all cute, this is an absolute genre success.
