  • Genre: Action, Fantasy, Comedy
  • Premiere: April 7, 2023
  • Episodes: 12
  • Studio: ENGI
  • Director: Kazuya Miura
  • Source: Light novel

About what: Another issekai about an unlucky hero who found himself drawn into a world unfamiliar to him. Schoolboy Hiroshi Yuki finds himself in a super-realistic MMO, where even the most banal quest runs the risk of becoming a deadly adventure.

What we think: In places the title resembles an almost genre parody, not at all embarrassed by the absurd logic and situations. And in some places it is also funny.

Zombieland Saga: Revenge

  • Genre: Comedy, Science Fiction, Everyday
  • Premiere: April 8, 2023
  • Episodes: 12
  • Studio: MAPPA
  • Director: Munehisa Sakai
  • Source: Original

About what: Continuation of the original story about cute zombie girls who have to conquer the stage, overcome personal problems and find true friendship. Everything is as always, only with a slight touch of carrion.

What we think: Nice, kind, and original. In general, the best thing is if you want to take a break from something too serious.

Lord of Darkness: Another History of the World – The Magic of Subjugation 2 / Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu Ω

  • Genre: Comedy, Fantasy
  • Premiere: April 9, 2023
  • Episodes: 10
  • Studio: Tezuka Productions
  • Director: Satoshi Kuwahara
  • Source: Light novel

About what: Yes, Isekai. Yes, about the MMO. Homebody Takuma Sakamoto finds himself in the universe of his beloved (or hated game), where he previously achieved significant success – he became a real king of demons. But for the hero, the situation turned into another surprise – now two unfamiliar girls are subordinate to him.

What we think: The first season started a couple of years ago, and if you liked it, feel free to watch the sequel. Fanservice, the dominance of stamps and a bunch of fanservice.

The World Ends With You: The Animation / Subarashiki Kono Sekai The Animation

  • Genre: Action, Sci-Fi
  • Premiere: April 10, 2023
  • Episodes: 12
  • Studio: Shin-Ei Animation
  • Director: Kazuya Ichikawa
  • Source: Game

About what: Adaptation of the 2007 cult Japanese RPG. The plot tells the story of a mysterious and deadly game unfolding in an alternate reality of Tokyo’s Shibuya district, where the winner gets the most valuable thing – his own life.

What we think: The narrative of the series is somewhat crumpled conveys the plot of the original game, but the visual style, music and general atmosphere are preserved with perfect accuracy. A good seed for the sequel TWEWY, which will be released this summer.

Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita

  • Genre: Fantasy, Comedy
  • Premiere: April 10, 2023
  • Episodes: 12
  • Studio: Revoroot
  • Director: Nobukage Kimura
  • Source: Light novel

About what: The unlucky heroine dies. And then he falls into an alternate reality. Where, as the name suggests, kills slugs for 300 years. But even such a measured, albeit atypical, life may come to an end.

What we think: Isekai starring girls. That is, there are no boys at all. In places it is funny and cute, but how interesting it is too early to judge.

Eighty Six / 86 EIGHTY-SIX

  • Genre: Action, Mecha
  • Premiere: April 11, 2023
  • Episodes: 11
  • Studio: A-1 Pictures
  • Director: Toshimasa Ishi
  • Source: Light novel

About what: War mecha-drama about fierce battles in the “86th district” – a zone of endless battles separating two irreconcilable states. However, for the civilian population, the very fact of harsh bloodshed is kept in the strictest confidence.

What we think: Unusual theme, not the most meager drawing and expressive design. All this, however, is combined with a noticeable confusion of the narrative – the pace of the story swings from side to side.

Edens Zero

  • Genre: Action, Fantasy
  • Premiere: April 11, 2023
  • Episodes: unknown

  • Director: Yuji Suzuki
  • Source: Manga

About what: A young man Shiki, who while away his boring days on a planet inhabited by smart machines, meets a girl, Rebecca. A fateful meeting becomes a catalyst for bright adventures.

What we think: Almost classic shonen with light humor, travel and good dynamics.

Waiting rating: 3/5

Don’t Mock, Nagatoro / Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san

  • Genre: Comedy, Everyday
  • Premiere: April 11, 2023
  • Episodes: 12
  • Studio: TMS Entertainmen
  • Director: Hirokazu Hanai
  • Source: Manga

About what: A screen adaptation of the famous comedy manga about a very mischievous girl Hayase Nagatoro who is willing to spend all her free time harassing her weak-willed senpai, Naoto Hachioji. Gradually, a strange relationship makes the young man change and develop into a light romance.

What we think: The original manga needs no introduction and will be adapted with due care. But if the Nagatoro archetype causes you acute pain in advance, it is better to refrain from viewing.

Waiting rating: 3/5

Tokyo Revengers

  • Genre: Action, Drama
  • Premiere: April 11, 2023
  • Episodes: unknown
  • Studio: Liden Films
  • Director: Koichi Hatsumi
  • Source: Manga

About what: A story of revenge and time travel. In the center of the Tokyo Revengers plot is the young man Takemiti Hanagaki, whose girlfriend was killed by the hands of one of the local criminal gangs. By the will of fate, the hero gets the opportunity to correct the mistakes of the past – he returns to the past and himself enters into a dangerous group in order to save the one he loves.

What we think: Time travel and tough Japanese punks are not the most boring cocktail, as the original manga proved well.

Waiting rating: 4/5

For you, Immortal / Fumetsu no Anata e

  • Genre: Drama
  • Premiere: April 12, 2023
  • Episodes: 20
  • Studio: Brain’s Base
  • Director: Koichi Hatsumi
  • Source: Manga

About what: Adaptation of a manga about a mysterious entity who came to an unfamiliar world. In an attempt to understand an alien reality, the entity takes many forms until it settles on the image of a young boy, in whose body he goes on great adventures in the hope of learning what humanity is.

What we think: An extremely touching and sincere story of humanity. I would like to believe that the whole season will be sustained in similar moods.
