Fritzchens Fritz from Germany shared images of a single chip system AMD Oberonestablished in Playstation 5… Previously enthusiast laid out images taken with a special microscope using shortwave infrared light (SWIR), which made it possible to see the internal structure of the SoC, while maintaining operability. Now Fritz decided to open the console and sand the component to see the system firsthand.
The PlayStation 5 SoC features an 8-core Zen 2 processor clocked at 3.5 GHz (VAR) and a custom RDNA 2 GPU capable of delivering 10.28 teraflops. The chip’s 36 computational units operate at frequencies up to 2.23 GHz and provide support for hardware ray tracing.
In the photos, you can see the GDDR6 memory controllers located on the sides of the GPU, and on the right, auxiliary SoC blocks such as the PCI-E 4.0 controller for the NVMe M.2 drive.
