The first part of a large list of prime ministers worth paying attention to.
January is coming to an end – the time when Hollywood studios release their most dubious projects in cinemas, and Russian distributors are squeezing the last juices from the New Year holidays. But in the remaining eleven months we are waiting for a lot of really intriguing paintings. We counted as many as thirty and broke the list into two parts. So, meet the first!
Birds of Prey: Stunning Harley Quinn Story – February 6
First DC blockbuster after hit The Joker so far raises a lot of questions. According to reporters, Warner Bros. she was extremely dissatisfied with the draft version of the picture and even removed the director Katie Yan from filming, replacing her with the director John Wick Chad Stahelsky. He should, like, reduce the degree of feminism and turn the story of Harley Quinn and her friends into a fervent comedy thriller. So far, all this is reminiscent of what happened with the long-suffering “Suicide Squad”. As we recall, then the attempt to urgently remake the film did not end with anything good. But who knows, maybe this time it turned out better.
Gentlemen – February 13
After high-profile blockbusters, failed and successful, Guy Ritchie returns to the genre of crime comedy that made him famous. But in 2023, he no longer needs to put his friends and little-known British actors on the main roles, but he can call world stars. As part of the bloody skit Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant and Charlie Hunnam. Critics report that the film is full of a three-story mat, politically incorrect jokes and violence. In general, the same Guy Ritchie, whom we have not seen, probably since “Big jackpot”.
Color from other worlds – February 13
Screen adaptation of Lovecraft from the creators of the sensational Mandy, and besides, with Nicolas Cage in the title role – it sounds intriguing. Yes, and it looks, judging by the trailer, too. The director was Richard Stanley – a very non-standard director who shot the cult cyberpunk horror thirty years ago “Iron”. And Elijah Wood, who is producing the picture, wants “Color from other worlds” laid the foundation for the Lovecraftian film universe. Critics who have already appreciated the film at festivals note that in places it is completely insane, and in some places even funny.
Sonic at the cinema – February 20
The film, which managed to make a lot of noise with one of its trailer. Yes, Sonic himself, to the delight of the fans, was redrawn, but it is not yet clear whether the film will get better from this. There was not a single rightful joke in the commercials, and the plot, apparently, goes according to the worked out scheme “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” and Detective Pikachu. All hope for the charisma of Jim Carrey, who after a long break returns to the genre of comedy.
Dr. Dolittle’s Amazing Journey – February 20
Trailers Doctors Doolittle gave hope for a vivid adventure movie for the whole family. Nice drawn animals, nice picture, as always charming Robert Downey Jr. the main role, and the script is based on cult children’s books, from the hero of which Korney Chukovsky openly wrote off his Aibolit. What could go wrong? According to foreign critics, absolutely everything went wrong. The plot is falling to pieces, the jokes are catastrophically not funny, and Downey is grimacing instead of playing. And that’s all with a budget of one hundred seventy five million dollars. “Doolittle” is already called the contender for the title of the main failure of two thousand and twentieth.
Bloodshot – February 27
A screen version of a comic book about a gray-skinned super-soldier with nanobots instead of blood. True, judging by the trailers, Vin Diesel will go without makeup for most of the time and play Vin Diesel again. What makes me look at the project with skepticism is the PG-13 teen rating. And this despite the fact that the bloody action is one of the main advantages of the original comic book. Of course, the creators say that on media Bloodshot may come out uncensored, but in movie theaters we are surely waiting for a heavily cut version.
Mad Miles – February 27
One of the main dark horses of this year, which may turn out to be both a small hit and complete disappointment. In fact, Mad Miles – this is such a free remake “Running man” or already forgotten Gamer with Gerard Butler. The main character is literally beaten up with a pair of pistols and sent to participate in the real royal battle on the streets of the city. The trick is that all this disgrace took off Jason Lee Howden – the director of a completely gone horror comedy Deadly Orgasm. And the main roles were played by Daniel Radcliffe and the rising star Samara Weaving, which can be seen in the provocative thriller “I’m going to search”.
Yaga. Dark Forest Nightmare – February 27
It’s hard to believe, but in recent years at least two commercially successful Russian horror films have come out – The Queen of Spades: The Black Rite and “Bride”. And for the first, and for the second, and in addition, and for “The mermaid. Lake of the Dead answered director Svyatoslav Podgayevsky. And no matter how anyone relates to his work, he at least does something to develop genre cinema in our country. “Yaga. Dark Forest Nightmare “ – Perhaps the most ambitious film of Podgayevsky at the moment. In fact, this is an undisguised attempt to play on the success of the first part “It”. In the center of the plot is a company of teenagers who are trying to resist the evil devouring children. Only instead of Derry is the outskirts of Moscow, and instead of Pennywise is our native Baba Yaga, however, in an unusual design. Initially, the film was supposed to go out last Halloween, but they decided to remount it, so that there would be a little more adventure than horror.
Forward – March 5
The first in three years, the original Pixar cartoon marks the niche of urban fantasy unusual for the studio. In the represented universe, instead of the usual Middle Ages, it was fabulous, with dragons, fairies and sorcerers. But the twenty-first century has come, everyone has forgotten about magic, and instead of castles and villages, skyscrapers and suburbs have grown. In general, everything, as in “Brightness” from Netflix, only without blood and racism. In the center of the plot are two elf brothers who are trying to save their missing father – he, it turns out, practiced sorcery and even left behind a magic staff. Trailers promise a lot of banter over fantasy stamps, colorful locations, as well as the usual Pixar story of eternal values.
Quiet place March 2 – 19
John Krasinski shot the continuation of his sensational horror film himself, but lost his place in the frame to the equally talented Killian Murphy. This time, the miserable family will have to leave an isolated farm and try to survive in a world where blind monsters reign. There will be more locations, as well as characters, but tense scenes may decrease, because the sequel will definitely lose the original chamber. Suspense is likely to be replaced by drama, as in the best films about post-apocalypse. In any case, we hope so.
The Invisible Man – March 26
As a screenwriter, Lee Wonnell became famous for a long time – on his account “Saw” and Astral. But here, as a director, he announced himself only the year before last, removing for some five million an excellent fantastic thriller Upgrade. The film quickly gained almost cult status, and thanks to this, Universal entrusted to Wannell one of the fragments of his crumbling Dark Universe – “The Invisible Man”. And he took and turned the next film adaptation of Wells into a thriller about domestic violence and paranoia. Unfortunately, the trailer has spoiled many spectacular scenes, but even so, the picture will certainly be remembered – at least thanks to the game of Elizabeth Moss.
Mulan – March 26
Yes, another Disney remake, but perhaps the only one worthy of attention from all of them. This time, “Mouse House” decided to refuse to shoot the cartoon frame-by-frame and instead bring it as close as possible Mulan to the “whisker” genre – traditional Chinese fantasy, pathos and romantic. The sacrifice of seriousness brought musical numbers and even the dragon Mushu, which has already outraged fans of the original cartoon. However, the picture looks amazing, evoking a classic like “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Hero”.
New Mutants – April 2
Once upon a time “New mutants” looked quite promising. A gloomy film comic with thriller elements and popular young actresses in the lead roles – at least something original against the background of motley superheroic epics. But then the picture was not lucky to get into production hell. At first, the success of “It” spurred Fox management to add more horror to the film. Then, somehow, not according to plan, the test shows passed, and it was decided to re-shoot the tape again. And then came Disney, who for a long time decided what she should do with such an inheritance. There were even rumors that the film would be thrown right away to stream services. But no, two years after the original release date, New Mutants will still get to the big screen. If they are not transferred again.
No time to die – April 9th
The final part of the “Bond” with Daniel Craig, too, was born in agony. Initially, the film was to be shot by Oscar-winning Danny Boyle, but due to creative disagreements with the main star, he left the project six months after his appointment. He was replaced by the less authoritative Carey Fukunaga, whose main merit is the first season “The real detective”. But as soon as the shooting started, some pretty strange rumors began to appear on the net. Allegedly, real chaos reigns on the site, and the script for the picture is written almost on the go. Could this happen to a new part of a multi-million dollar franchise? In fact, yes, and there are many examples, take at least Hana Solo. But sometimes the hardships of production almost affect the final quality of the film. Let’s see if James Bond can overcome all difficulties.
Black Widow – April 30
To get a solo film, Natasha Romanova had to die. But as they say, better late than never. The picture tells what Black Widow did after the events. “Confrontation”, and at the same time introduce her named sister Elena Belova and villain Taskmaster. And, of course, with great impatience we are waiting for the Red Guard performed by David Harbor. The Russian response to Captain America is pot-bellied, bearded and tattooed – only a motorcycle with a flag is missing. Trailers promise a lot of spectacular handshake in the spirit of “John Wick” and unusual for film comics scenery of Eastern Europe.
This is only the first half of the list. Ahead of us are waiting for fifteen more no less intriguing paintings. And which of the presented films do you expect the most? Write in the comments.
