The authors of the horror Resident Evil Village accused of stealing the design of monsters

Dutch filmmaker Richard Raaphorst accused the developers of the recently released horror Resident Evil: Village in plagiarism.

This weekend, the director posted a post on his LinkedIn page stating that a Japanese publisher used monster designs from his horror movie for his game without permission. “Army of Frankenstein” year 2013, which tells how a group of Soviet soldiers encounter undead mechanical soldiers created by an insane German scientist.

Warning: Spoilers for Resident Evil: Village follow!

We are talking about a boss called Assault with a giant three-blade propeller instead of a head. The character appears closer to the middle of the story at the Heisenberg factory and visually really looks like the same creature from “Army of Frankenstein”. In addition, the way in which he is defeated is the same: both in the game and in the film, the monster explodes after arson.

“In 2013, I made the movie Army of Frankenstein. It’s a crazy monster movie filled with my own creature designs, one of which was used without any permission or credits in the new Resident Evil game.”

The director attached several comparison images to the post, showing the similarities between the boss from Resident Evil: Village and the monster from his film. At the same time, as users later noticed, in horror Capcom there are also a few semi-mechanical opponents, reminiscent of the creatures from the “Army of Frankenstein”. In response, Raaphorst said the problem was “worse than he thought.”

“At first I was angry, then I was proud, but now, seeing this, I felt sad.”

Portal VGC asked Capcom to comment on the allegations, but the company has not yet responded.
