Temporary inconvenience for the common good: Sony announces slower access to PSN due to coronavirus

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, millions of people around the world are now forced to spend their leisure time in conditions of home self-isolation, which inevitably leads to an increase in the consumption of online content.

The increased load on the network has led to the fact that Netflix and YouTube were forced to temporarily reduce the quality of the video stream in their services in order to reduce the burden on Internet providers. The company followed the same example today. Sony Interactive Entertainmentwho announced a decrease in access speed to Playstation network for Europeans.

“We believe it is important to contribute to solving the problems associated with the stability of the Internet, because now the world is in an environment where an unprecedented number of people practice social distance and are increasingly dependent on access to the network,” said SIE head Jim Ryan.

According to the company, during this period, gamers may encounter a slower download speed, but the initiative should not be reflected in multiplayer sessions.
