Samsung plans to launch DDR5 memory in 2023 – review

Next year Samsung plans to start mass production of DDR5 and LPDDR5 memory using technology based on extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL). This was reported by the portal Anandtech.

This technology is selectively used for the release of DDR4 chips, but in the future it will also be used for the fifth generation. The new approach will allow the release of chips of a larger capacity than now, as well as increase their performance.

However, for the full deployment of production, it is necessary that the new memory is supported by motherboards and processors. At the moment, none of the existing chips can work with DDR5. Support expected Ryzen 5000as well as related Intel models.

It is important to note that the first versions of the memory will probably be inferior to the current DDR4 at that time. It will take time for the new modules to get rid of “childhood diseases.” This situation was already with the release of DDR3 and DDR4, when they were inferior to the previous generation for some time, but they were more expensive.
