Roskomnadzor decided to lift the ban on the messenger Telegram on Russian territory. This is stated in the statement of the department.
The decision was made in agreement with General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation. According to officials, they allegedly positively evaluate the statements of the founder of Telegram Pavel Durov that he is ready to counter terrorism and extremism. However, before that, the State Duma had introduced a bill to remove restrictions on the messenger, which could affect the position of the ILV.
Telegram was blocked by a court decision in Russia in April 2018, but in reality the messenger continued to work, despite all the efforts of Roskomnadzor. Moreover, large politicians and even officials, including the head of the ILV, had their channels in the messenger Alexandra Zharova (since 2023 he was replaced Andrey Lipov) This clearly demonstrated the principle of “the severity of laws is tempered by their failure to comply.”
