Resident Evil Code: Veronica is 20 years old

In January Resident evil 4 15 years old, and in early February marks the 20th anniversary Resident Evil Code: Veronicadebuted on the console Sega dreamcast in the year 2000. Later, the game was transferred to Playstation 2, Gamecube and other platforms.

“Veronica Code” opened with one of the most memorable opening clips in the series and allowed players to be back in the shoes of Claire Redfield, who managed to survive the terrifying events in the infected city of Raccoon City.

After the events described in Resident Evil 2, the girl continues to search for her brother Chris. She makes an unsuccessful attempt to get into the Paris branch of Umbrella Corporation, is captured and ends up on Rockfort Island, where the new adventure begins.

The first thing that caught my eye after the end of the introductory cutscenes and the exit from the prison cell was the general visual component. Compared to the PlayStation generation, character models gained a huge increase in polygons, you could consider their faces. The developers completely abandoned the pre-rendered backdrops and for the first time relied on a full three-dimensional environment. In 2000, the game was perceived by fans as a real nekstgen.

Insects ran along the walls and tables, a light dangled from the ceiling, and the light from the lighter cast objects that seemed realistic at that time.

In addition to an improved graphic component, the new Resident Evil struck even more terribly looking and sounding zombies, which for the first time in the series could be completely killed by two-handed shooting at once to the two living dead, which looked pretty cool.

The game also boasted a fairly large by the standards of the series duration, eventfulness and various puzzles. On the way to the end credits, gamers expected a meticulous study of the huge military base on Rockfort Island, followed by a transition to the Umbrella Base in Antarctica. At certain points in the story, players other than Claire were given control of the new hero Steve and even Chris Redfield himself.

Interestingly, despite the lack of a number in the title, the plot of Resident Evil: Code Veronica is very informative on canonical events, such as the long-awaited reunion of Claire and Chris, as well as a sudden meeting with a ghost from the past in the person of Albert Wesker.

Today the game can be played on Playstation 4 and on Xbox one backward compatibility program.
