Rainbow Six Siege will be released on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, negotiations are ongoing on crossplay with Sony and Microsoft

Company Ubisoft plans to release a tactical shooter Rainbow six siege on new generation consoles Xbox Series X and Playstation 5. About this project development manager Leroy Atanasof informed the portal Windows central.

“[…] Our game will be available on new consoles from the moment they are released. But I can’t tell you any exact dates, since the manufacturers must announce them, “the developer explained.

Apparently, part of its current service games Ubisoft is going to optimize for new hardware (and, possibly, re-release in new boxes), while the rest can simply run on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X without significant technical improvements in the backward compatibility program. For example, the company claims that it does not create a special version of The Division 2 for the new hardware.

It is likely that owners of older versions of Siege will be able to upgrade to non-Xtgen versions through a special patch on new consoles. But Ubisoft has not yet gone into the details of this system.

However, it is already known that the company will continue to support Rainbow Six Siege at Playstation 4 and Xbox one. Moreover, owners of new consoles will be able to play with users of old consoles on shared servers. Ubisoft is also interested in a full-fledged cross-play between all Sony and Microsoft consoles and conducts relevant discussions with platform owners, but so far it’s not so simple and there are still “many obstacles” to be overcome.
