On YouTube, “high resolution” now starts at 1080p

Resource Wccftech reported a fun update in YouTube requirements. Traditionally, the term HD (High Definition) means a resolution of an image or video of 1280 x 720 pixels. However, now, as it turned out, the largest video hosting has redefined this value.
From now on, in the video quality settings on YouTube, the resolution of 720p is no longer marked with the HD icon. Marking is only at 1080p. Moreover, there was no official announcement of such an opportunity, and the reasons for the innovation were not disclosed.
Overall, this is a rather strange decision. Perhaps video hosting is simply adapting to new standards, introducing new codecs or preparing to improve video quality after a pandemic.
It is possible that this was done with a view to the future, because 4K and 8K TVs are already on the market, and therefore a change of standards is inevitable.
