Officially: Sony will not take part in E3 2023

Company Sony Interactive Entertainment officially confirmed that it will not participate in the largest international game exhibition E3 2023. Instead, she will focus on holding her own events and will attend numerous other events around the world, where she will talk about the latest internal developments and the details of launching the next generation console Playstation 5.

In a commentary sent to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony emphasized that it respects the organizers of E3, the ESA organization, however, after carefully weighing the pros and cons, she came to the conclusion that the format of the exhibition does not meet its plans for 2023.

These plans are to focus on showing their latest developments not to a narrow circle of people, but to the widest possible. More specifically, instead of E3 Sony is going to visit “hundreds of consumer events around the world.

“We strive to make fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have direct access to content,” the message said.

Sony called the PlayStation 4 gaming line “fantastic” and added that the launch of the PlayStation 5 will make the year special.

GamesIndustry.biz writes that major publishers and platform owners have disagreements on the issue of the modern E3 format, and the ESA cannot satisfy all parties.

According to the publication, some companies, such as Sony and EA, wish E3 to be a full-fledged holiday for gamers, which implies access to the masses for new products in the exhibition space, while other manufacturers prefer a more closed approach – they want to see E3 primarily with the exhibition for industry leaders.

In recent years, the organizers began to let ordinary users enter E3 (previously it was open strictly for developers, publishers, retailers, investors, analysts and journalists), but there are not so many tickets, but in comparison with Gamescom, Paris Games Week or Tokyo Game Show generally very few. Against this background, for example, EA holds its own event EA Play, which invites gamers to personally look at the games.

Sony has not announced the date of the presentation of the new console and has not yet published a list of all the shows that it plans to visit in 2023 with games for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
