Microsoft published on the site an emulator of the Windows 10X operating system, which is designed for devices with two screens, like Surface neo. The system is intended for developers, although no one bothers to download it and try to install it yourself.
This assembly requires knowledge of the Visual Studio development environment as well as preliminary versions of Windows. In addition, there are hardware requirements – a processor with Hyper-V support, graphics with hardware acceleration, the Windows Insider Preview host system of assembly 10.0.19555, and so on.
The new OS will use containers to run Win32 applications. Support for Universal Windows Apps (UWP) and Progressive Web Apps (PWA) is also claimed, but it seems that they will not need anything extra.
Microsoft promises that most everyday programs will work as before, but in some cases code changes may be required.
As expected, devices with screens running Windows 10X should appear this year. They are being developed not only at Microsoft, but also at Dell, HP, Asus and Lenovo. It is assumed that they will be based on processors Lakefield.
