Official: Grand Theft Auto parent company buys DiRT series creators

Portal VGC citing a letter to investors, reported today that the company Take-Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar Games, 2K Games and Private Division, has reached a formal agreement to purchase a British studio Codemasters, which is best known for the racing games of the DiRT, GRID and F1 series. Experts estimate that the deal in cash and shares could be £ 750 million ($ 980 million). Both companies expect it to close in the first quarter of 2023: you just need to get approval from shareholders at the upcoming general meeting

Codemasters will be a separate “sports” division for Take-Two, like Rockstar Games or the Private Division. All key management team, including the CEO Frank Sagnier and CFO Rashida Varachia, will remain in their positions and will operate under the 2K label.

In 2019 Codemasters bought a studio Slightly Mad Studios (Project Cars and Fast & Furious Crossroads series) and received the rights to release games under license FIA World Rally Championship

The fifth part of the main series DiRT launches on consoles of the Xbox Series family today, November 10th. Owners PlayStation 5 will have to wait until 12th and 19th November depending on the region of the world.
