Samsung introduced a mobile headset Gear VR back in 2014 as part of a partnership Oculus. The American company was engaged in the software part, then the South Korean giant – in iron. The corresponding devices were released until 2017, but it seems that this has come to an end.
The software developer decided to uninstall his Gear VR apps. We are talking about the Oculus 360 Photos and Oculus Video programs. They will be removed from the store, although the installed versions will remain with users. Also, the already downloaded builds of the corporate browser will not be touched, however, there will be no more updates.
The fact is that Samsung has long abandoned the development of VR-direction using branded smartphones. Even under the Galaxy S9 they did not release a new headset, but limited themselves to an adapter for the old model.
Thus, the segment of VR entertainment today is represented mainly by “computer” and autonomous helmets. Smartphone-based versions have so far “not gone.”
