“Now we’re even more motivated”: Phil Spencer on Xbox Series S and X pre-orders in Japan

Pre-orders opened on September 24th in Japan Xbox series x and S were sold out almost instantly in all local stores. Given the historically low platform performance in the region, the first batch of devices was unlikely to be high. Nevertheless, it can be called a good start for a company in an unpopular market for it.

In conversation with Famitsu chapter Xbox Phil Spencer called the pre-start results “the first step in a much longer marathon.”

“I am honored at how well the Japanese fans have received the Xbox Series X / S. Given the goals we set for the Xbox Series X / S, this is just the first step in a much longer marathon, but I’m very excited to learn how much from we are expected and the fact that pre-orders have been sold out motivates us even more. “

When asked if Microsoft is going to increase shipments of consoles to Japan in light of the results of pre-orders, Spencer suggested that in the near future, demand will exceed supply.

“We are definitely planning to ship more consoles in the future. However, before and after launch, demand usually exceeds supply.”

“Looking ahead, we would like to meet the demand within a few months after launch, especially in the Japanese market, where we are thinking about development in the long term.”

Earlier Thursday Microsoft Japan announced a price cut for the Xbox Series S, bringing the price gap between it and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in the country 10,000 yen… This move is due to the desire of Microsoft to strengthen its position in Japan – the company promises to take into account past mistakes and strengthen its work in the region.
