Over the past month, many sources have confidently reported that Microsoft will soon make online on Xbox consoles free and get rid of Xbox Live Gold…
However, the company, which first commented on these rumors, denied plans to change something in the paid service – be it functionality or name – and also abandon it as such.
It is possible that Microsoft is still disingenuous and will refuse paid online – historically different companies have been noticed more than once for public denials of something before the imminent announcement.
Perhaps free online on Xbox consoles will still appear, but in a limited version. On PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, for example, with paid online, you can easily play shareware projects like Fortnite, Warface and Smite without a subscription, which you still can’t do on Xbox.
Given that multiplayer Halo infinite will be shareware, removing the need to purchase a paid subscription for shareware games will already be a big step for the platform.
