Journalist Craig Pearson at the request of Valve chose the best modifications for Half-Life: Alyx – Igromania

A year ago, on March 23, 2023, in Steam the release took place Half-Life: Alyx… Developers from Valve decided to celebrate the event and asked journalist Craig Pearson, who has worked at PCG, IGN, RPS and Facepunch, to choose the best mods for the VR shooter.

As a reminder, Half-Life: Alyx received support from the Steam Workshop almost two months after its release. Since then, the VR shooter has received over 800 modifications, Valve said.

Pearson made two lists. The first one is for those who want to go through the campaign again, and contains modifications with new opponents, weapons and playstyles. And in the second, you can find full-fledged new levels and campaigns.

Part 1

  • Campaign + – Allows you to replay the game with improved weapons, new opponents, skirmishes and more.
  • The Handheld Combine Shield is a portable Alliance shield that can be found at almost every level and used as cover in open space or to deflect grenades.
  • The Recurve Bow is an infinite bow that appears at the start of several chapters.
  • Glorious Gloves – Transforms Russells into full-scale gravel gloves, allowing Alix to pull large objects from afar.
  • Auto Pickup – allows you to put ammo into your backpack not over your shoulder, but simply by picking it up and releasing it.
  • Energetic Hands – Alix can energize and fire the Gravel Gloves from the start of the game. Motions and gestures are used to create various effects.
  • Sustenance Mod – allows you to have a snack anywhere to heal, but spoiled food will become bad.
  • Gordon’s Crowbar – Adds a heavy two-handed mount.

Part 2

  • C17YSCAPE – The action takes place in City 17 between the events of Half-Life: Alyx and Half-Life 2. The player was imprisoned by the Alliance, but his prison capsule failed, allowing him to escape.
  • Overcharge is a map created before the official tools were released. On it, players will see a large part of the City-17 captured by the Alliance.
  • Belomorskaya Station is a survival horror map where players will have to wade through zombie-filled metro tunnels, inspect every corner and constantly worry about the stock of ammunition.
  • Brewery Break-In – The action takes place before the events of the main game. Alix will have to explore the brewery and solve puzzles.
  • Goon Squad – players will take on the role of a member of the Alliance patrol squad stuck in a quarantined sewer. The only goal is to get out.
  • Xenthug is a map created before the official tools were released. Players will have to fight waves of enemies and pick up tar from some killed opponents, which must be spent between waves to buy ammo, health and more.
  • BLOPS17: Emergent is a kind of zombie mode for Call of Duty. There is less space than Xenthug, and players will have to constantly move to fix entry points. You can buy ammo and defense upgrades.
  • Minigolf – seven holes mini golf.
  • Northern Star Bowling is an imitation of bowling, but the physics of the game allows you to throw balls only in a straight path. The pins are set automatically. There is also a table of points to compete with yourself.
Until March 31, Half-Life: Alyx can be purchased on Steam with a 40% discount for 651 rubles.
